Betty Soldi is a calligrapher, designer and creative thinker from a Florentine family that has been handmaking fireworks since 1869. Raised in London, her uniquely original calligraphic style merges a heritage of design references with modern intellect for emotionally compelling branding, bespoke visual arts projects, graphic design communication, lifestyle objects, stationery and packaging.
Her scarf design is inspired by the tragic life of Lucrezia de Medici — born on Feburary 14, 1545 — and the Robert Browning poem that honors her, "My Last Duchess." De Medici lived an isolated life in the Palazzo Pitti, mere meters from Soldi'sdesign studio and home and now a major tourist attraction. The juxtaposition of seeing and being seen, in all its myriad forms, is at the heart of the image Soldi created.
